Behavior Management
As a teacher, I believe I need to empower my students to be respectful and responsible. In order to help them learn how to be respectful and responsible learners, our Voyager Team came up with a behavior management system that holds students accountable for their homework assignments and behavior in class.
Class Rules
As a class, we will come up with a set of classroom rules. All of the students will share their ideas and create a condensed list of classroom rules they believe would help our classroom run smoothly.
Missing Work/ Materials
Students are expected to bring their materials and any homework assignments to class every day. If they forget an assignment or a material, they will get a green reminder sticker in their assignment notebook. Students need to get this sticker signed by a parent that night and show me the next morning. This is a way to keep parents informed about any missing work or materials their child may have.
Behavior
If students are not following the expectations, they will get a verbal reminder. If they continue to not follow the expectations, that will be a "strike." If they get 2 strikes during the day, they will receive a green reflection form. This form asks students to reflect on how their behavior impacted others and how they can work to prevent this in the future. This will go home to be signed by a parent that evening.
Fun Friday
Every Friday, we will be having 30 minutes of "Fun Friday." This is like a bonus recess time where the class can play together and celebrate their hard work throughout the week. If students receive 1 missing assignment sticker that week, they will be sitting out of 5 minutes of Fun Friday and working on their missing work. If they receive 2 missing assignment stickers that week, they will be sitting out of 10 minutes of Fun Friday and working on their missing work. If a student were to get 3 or more missing assignments during the week, they will be reflecting on what happened this week and creating a goal to help them turn in their work next week. The goal is to reflect and learn from our mistakes so we can do better!
